Effect of SGLT2 inhibitors on cardiac function and cardiovascular outcome. Osmotic diuresis mainly caused by urine glucose excretion leads to plasma volume reduction without activating renin angiotensin system and sympathetic nervous system. Plasma volume reduction leads to decreased cardiac workload resulting in the improvement of cardiac function and hence, favorable cardiovascular outcome.
